For this map, I have shown the states that have the highest percentage of seniors over the age of 65, those with the least, and those in between. This project required me to retrieve TIGER/Line shapefiles from the US Census Bureau’s website as well as an Excel spreadsheet with the table descriptions. I then calculated the percentage of the population over 65 by normalizing it by the total population.
For this project, I was requested to find the best location to open a new day care center catering to high income households in the city of Frisco. The households needed to have a high percentage of children under the age of 6, as well as a household income of at least $150,000. Of the areas that met those requirements the best area to open a new location was the one with the least amount of competition.
For this project, I was given a map containing fire zones and roads. I was asked to make a tool that would select the roads in each fire zone and add up the total linear lane miles for that zone. I was given a database that contained a separate feature class file for each zone and I was to add a field to the attribute table that would contain the linear lane miles for that zone. The original assignment was to perform this task strictly with python code but I also made a tool to perform the task using model builder.
I have been studying Geospatial Information Science at Collin College in Frisco Texas since 2015. I have taken a particular interst in automating processes and making new tools using both Model Builder and python scripts to speed up common tasks with greater accuracy.
